A cosigner is an individual who agrees to jointly share responsibility for repaying a loan if the principal borrower fails to meet the obligations of the loan agreement. With credit cards, a cosigner agrees to the responsibilities of a credit application with the primary cardholder, which basically means that they take on liability for your debts. A family member or friend who has an established credit history may be eligible to be cosigners.
