Authorization Only

An authorization only transaction is a transaction created to reserve an amount against a credit card's available limit for intended purchases. Authorization only transactions are generally used by merchants that require pre-authorization before a purchase may be initiated, such as paying for gas at the pump. The settlement may occur within three to five days, depending on the card type.
